NGT2+ thermal transfer printer successfully in continuous operation at Hahn-Schickard

10. May 2021 // Werner Schicks

NGT2+ meets all criteria

In the search for a suitable labeling system for stick packs used for a Corona PCR rapid test, among other labeling systems, the Allen NGT2+ thermal transfer printer was tested. The decisive factor was that the printing has no negative influence on the biochemistry of the stickpack contents or the packaging itself, as is the case with laser marking, for example. In addition, the print should be high-resolution to ensure traceability. The reliability of the printing system was another important criterion, as the printer runs in a multi-shift system.

Marking under clean room conditions

Up to 60 prints per minute

“Diagraph’s NGT2+ meets all these criteria in the best possible way, which is why we chose it when selecting a printing system,” says Philipp Tepper, head of stickpack production at Hahn-Schickard. “The printer runs very stable and we can mark up to 60 units per minute with ease.”

Free print image design software

The applied print image contains both variable fields, such as date and original time, and fixed values, such as the article number . The print data comes from a control unit that is directly connected to the printer on the system. The free a:design software from Diagraph is used for print image design. “The commissioning of the printer went off without a hitch. After installation, the system was immediately ready for use,” says Mr. Tepper enthusiastically.

Allen NGT2+ runs stably in three-shift operation

The printer has been running in the stickpack production line for about two years. In future, the stick packs for the Corona PCR rapid test will also be manufactured in three-shift operation. “The NGT2+ runs very robustly. Except for ribbon changes, there is no downtime,” emphasizes Mr. Tepper. With an additional ribbon cartridge, refilling ribbon is done in no time and the printer is immediately ready for use again.

Overall, Hahn-Schickard is completely satisfied with the Allen NGT2+ printing system.
