How to simplify your contract packaging – with Diagraph labeling systems

30. August 2023 // Werner Schicks

More and more contract packagers are trying to simplify their labeling. Using multiple devices to print on different sized containers and different material types is costly and inefficient. To be competitive, however, companies must still be able to label all types of packaging.

Labeling requirements can vary widely between primary and secondary packaging. These requirements include printing on different substrates such as plastic, cardboard, glass and metal. In addition, the print images may differ in type and size. The more printing systems used to meet these requirements, the higher the costs.

New packaging trends

Contract packers must also respond to new packaging trends such as new substrates, new package shapes and sizes, and environmental initiatives. Sometimes the same information needs to be printed on different packaging forms and sizes, e.g. on the product and the outer packaging. This information must be legible and permanent to ensure traceability. Under no circumstances should a code be smeared or wiped off a package.

Keep costs low

Many contract packaging companies are introducing new packaging lines to reduce costs and improve competitiveness. By implementing the right printing technology, the cost per print can be significantly reduced to remain competitive.

With a single printing solution, you can significantly reduce costs in the following areas:

  • Equipment costs.
Purchase and maintain a single coder that can perform all your required primary and secondary packaging tasks.
  • Maximize efficiency.
The production line is only as fast as the coder, so choose a coder with high reliability and long maintenance intervals that is also quick and easy to service.
  • Quick setup.
Make sure you can change product series quickly to keep the production line running longer. Choose an encoder with an intuitive and user-friendly interface for quick setup.

Efficient marking equipment

Diagraph’s continuous inkjet (CIJ) printers, thermal inkjet printers, large character printers, labelers and thermal transfer printers can print information such as text, data, barcodes and logos on a variety of porous and non-porous substrates. This allows for both primary and secondary labeling with easy-to-use and maintain printers, making your contract packaging operation more efficient and cost-effective.

  • Reliability: Diagraph coders lead the industry in reliability, with long service intervals and robust design.
  • Ease of use: Our coders have intuitive interfaces that make it easy to select and save messages.
  • Mobility: Our labelers operate purely electrically and require no compressed air, so they can be quickly and easily moved between production lines.
  • Versatility: Diagraph printers offer print alignment flexibility, the highest print image quality and reliability.
  • Flexibility: A wide range of inks is available for the continuous inkjet printers and thermal inkjet printers for all porous and non-porous substrates.
