Industrial printers: definition, sectors and products

Lesedauer: 0 Minuten

Imagine every package and every label in your production is clear, easy to read and complies with legal requirements. This is exactly what modern industrial printers can achieve by meeting the high demands of various industries. Whether labels or direct marking: They are the backbone of any reliable product marking. Here you can find out what industrial printers are, what applications there are in different industries and how to choose the right one for you.

What is an industrial printer?

An industrial printer is a printer that has been specially developed for use in industrial environments: It is significantly more robust than conventional office devices, offers a higher print speed, longer service life and also reliably withstands extreme conditions such as dust, heat or moisture. Whether labels, barcodes, packaging or components - industrial printers ensure permanent, precise marking directly in the production process.

Applications and sectors of industrial printers

Industrial printers are used in almost every processing industry. They ensure that products are correctly labeled and that traceability, safety and efficiency are guaranteed. They are used particularly frequently in:

Different requirements are relevant depending on the industry: While the chemical industry requires consistent labeling in demanding environments, logistics, for example, requires efficient, error-free labeling - for example with large character printers that enable character heights of over 100 mm and work reliably even at 90 m/min. The required labels or print images vary greatly - so the industrial printer should be selected with long-term use in mind.

In addition to the industry, the material to be labeled also plays an important role. The possible applications are numerous - here is an overview of possible markings:

Whether you want to label pallets or eggs, there is a suitable solution for almost every material. We will be happy to help you make the right choice.

Technologies and products

Different printing technologies are used depending on the application and industry. Below you will find an overview of the most important systems in our range - each with a clearly defined purpose and typical benefits:

  • Inkjet printers
Inkjet printers work without contact and are ideal for applying variable data such as best-before dates, barcodes or serial numbers. Continuous inkjet (CIJ) in particular is used in high-speed production - e.g. in the food and beverage industry.
  • Large character printer
These printers produce particularly large and legible characters on cardboard boxes, bags or pallets. They are often used in logistics centers and shipping departments where packaging needs to be legibly marked at a distance.
  • CO₂ laser marker
Laser marking is contactless, permanent and particularly precise. CO₂ lasers are suitable for materials such as plastic, glass or paper - especially where ink cannot or must not be used.
  • Labeling systems
These systems handle the automatic dispensing and - in combination with print modules - also the printing of labels. They are ideal for series production, automated packaging lines or batch labeling.
  • Thermal transfer printer
In thermal transfer printing, a ribbon is heated and the ink is transferred to the label - for durable, smudge-proof markings. Typical applications are in logistics, laboratories or industrial products that need to remain legible for a long time.
  • Hot stamping machine
The hot stamp uses temperature and pressure to permanently transfer a foil onto the carrier material. It is particularly suitable for packaging or plastic parts where permanent marking without ink is required.

In addition to our printers, we also offer you the right software solutions.
For example, Control & Design software or NiceLabel products can be used to keep an eye on the challenging field of product labeling.

How do I find the right industrial printer for my company?

Finding the right industrial printer for your application doesn't usually happen overnight, but it's not rocket science either. We are happy to help you make the right decision. To help you find the right solution quickly and efficiently, we recommend that you first consider your labeling requirements: Which packaging and materials will be labeled, do you focus more on long-term efficiency or strong flexibility - or a mixture of both?

With our product finder, you can find the right printing system in just a few steps. Set specific filters - individually or in combination - and display suitable solutions.

This is how it works:

Packaging
Select whether the labeling should take place directly on the product, on the outer packaging/carton or on pallets.

Material
Specify the material to be printed on - e.g. uncoated cardboard, film, plastic, metal, glass or wood.

Surface
Select whether the surface is flat or uneven - important for choosing the right printing technology.

Type of labeling
Define which content should be applied: Date, lot numbers, texts, graphics or machine-readable codes such as barcodes or QR codes.

Line speed
Adapt the selection to your production speed - from standstill to over 180 m/min.

Labeling height
Specify how large the imprints should be - from small (e.g. best-before date) to large (e.g. pallet labeling).

Communication requirement
Do you need a network or system connection for automated data transfer? Select accordingly.

Search field
Alternatively, you can search specifically for products, sectors or technical terms.
