Hitachi printer marks bottle labels at high speed

10. May 2021 // Werner Schicks

Fast test setup enables on-site testing

After the prospect of investing in a new printer was raised, the Herbsthäuser brewery started looking for a successor model. “Above all, reliable and fast service and a consistently high-quality print image were important to us,” explains Markus Lutz, the brewery’s technical manager. In a trade magazine, he became aware of Allen Coding (now Diagraph), the coding specialist from nearby Würzburg, and contacted them. The very next day, a printer was installed for testing.

Best print result in high-speed printing

It turned out that the high speed of the labeler and the offset between printing and applying the label required some adjustments. A suitable solution was quickly found in the form of the Hitachi UX-D 150W high-speed printer in conjunction with a clock shift register, which has now been successfully in use since the beginning of the year.

Markus Lutz is very satisfied with the printer and service from Allen Coding (now Diagraph). “With our old printer, there were always misprints with missing characters or smeared imprints. Since we started using the Hitachi, the imprints of the best-before date and lot number are always excellent.” Constant monitoring and control of printer functions ensures consistently high print quality. Thanks to its IP65 protection class and robust stainless steel housing, the printer is ideally suited to the tough conditions in the production hall with temperature fluctuations and high humidity.

Fast service and low running costs

Mr. Lutz is very satisfied with the consulting and service provided by Allen Coding (now Diagraph). “The service staff can be reached quickly and are on hand to give us advice and support, because we can’t afford a standstill in the filling line.”

Last but not least, the significantly lower consumption of solvent compared to the predecessor model is inspiring. “Thanks to the economical Hitachi printer, our costs for consumables have been cut in half and service costs at Allen Coding are also lower,” Markus Lutz is pleased to report.

Allen Coding (now Daigraph) meets the requirements

For Herbsthäuser Brewery, three factors were decisive in the selection of a new marking printer:

1. fast service availability.

2. high reliability with consistent high-quality print result.

3. lower costs for consumables and service.

“Allen Coding (now Diagraph) meets these requirements to our complete satisfaction,” Markus Lutz concludes.
